Inspiration

Although it was difficult to go back to work today, I was excited to share my marathon experience with my students.  Upon arriving at school this morning, I was surprised with homemade cards from each of my students.  They wrote very sweet notes and drew some cute pictures.

I think they did a great job of drawing me running. Here, I appear to have won the race:

I love the headband/wristband look this student gave me:

And their notes brought a smile to my face:

Many of them wrote how I have inspired them to be able to run the 1 mile fitness test in the spring:

Many of my students said they watched the race coverage on tv, and couple even said they saw me. They must have confused me with Paula Radcliffe. 🙂  They enjoyed hearing all about the marathon and were very curious about what place I got.  I passed my medal around the class and they loved checking it out.

Reading their notes today made me realize how much of an impact I really have as a teacher.  I truly feel as if I have inspired them in many ways by running this marathon.  They heard stories about my training, and now realize that with hard work you CAN make your dreams come true.  One student even wrote on his card that now he will always do his best school work because I have inspired him.  And if that doesn’t bring a smile to a teacher’s face, I don’t know what will. 🙂
